Around My House: Deck-orating (Part 2)

Meanwhile, back at the deck…

Last week, I selected three pillows as possibilities for my outdoor furniture.

Here's another look the contestants:

I knew right away which one I liked best...

Although I like all three pillows a lot, this one "pops" against the yellow cushion, and adds some vibrancy. The others looked kind of drab.

The green trees are a nice backdrop.

The floral pattern looks better with my cast aluminum furniture than the other two, and they’re consistent with the colors and feel of the interior of my house. If you were to walk out onto my deck and see the watercolor pillows, you might think you made a wrong turn somewhere, and ended up at the neighbors’ house.  The style is just too different from everything else in my house. Duh…why I didn’t realize that in the store, I can’t tell you.

I like the way the rectangular pillows look on the big chairs. The squares feel kind of awkward on them.  I’d like to add some contrasting pillows, so that all the chairs don’t look so matchy-matchy, but for now, at least the two different shapes offer a bit of variety.

Sadie likes it.

Oh, and one last thing. These pillows look great with my outdoor dishes, although I am usually too lazy to use them, and opt for paper plates most of the time.

Next, I'd like to find an outdoor rug to pull the space together.  I'm thinking of getting this one in sage, or maybe this one in sage, from Frontgate.

I’m chomping at the bit to get everything set up on my deck, but I need to be patient, which isn't one of my strong suits.  It’s just too risky here in the northeast to buy flowers before the end of May, because there's still the chance that Jack Frost might make one or two more appearances.  Plus, we're having some deck work done in a couple of weeks, so I need to keep it clear of stuff so the guys have room to work. Stay tuned for updates on that...coming soon.

  13. Actually, I would have preferred the striped throw pillow, only because it matches the color of the couch. But I'm sure you have a better eye for these things and so I trust your decision. Hehe. Your dog seems to be enjoying the comfort of your deck, so you must have done a really great job.
