My Fall Front Porch, and What To Wear?

Fall Front Porch - The flower pots took less than five minutes to make (Ms Toody Goo Shoes)

Have you ever been so unhappy with what you were wearing,
that you went out and bought a new outfit in the middle of the day?

I've done it more than a few times.

I'm sure you're wondering what this has to do with my front porch...
and, it's uh, that we both needed something new to wear for fall.
Yeah, that's it!

Last week, I promised that I would show you how my five-minute fall flowerpots
came together on my porch. The pots took me no time to assemble...
I added a bunch of mums...and...

My porch was dressed and ready in minutes.

I call it my Pret-a-Porter-Porch.

I, on the other hand, was finding it much more difficult to dress myself.
This time of year, I never know what to wear,
especially if I'm going to be out the entire day.

I was headed into New York City on Wednesday, for my weekly Big Apple fix.
It was going to be a long day, and I was really looking forward to it.

But...what to wear...what to wear...
that would take me through a chilly morning, warm afternoon and cool night...
from a morning dentist appointment...to dinner at a chic restaurant?
Nothing I tried on made me happy, but I settled on something, and was on my way.

After the dentist, I headed over to Fifth Ave. to Magnolia Bakery
(Remember that from Sex and The City?).
I was picking up cupcakes to bring to my friend's apartment in the West Village.

He invited me and my "how old is sexy" friend, Jacky, for lunch.
We all worked together in our previous lives, and we had a great time catching up.

From there, I took the subway back up to midtown.
I had two hours to kill before meeting my BFF for dinner.
My birthday is in September; hers is in November,
and every October, we treat ourselves to dinner at one of NYC's best restaurants.

This year, we were celebrating at Marea, on Central Park West and 8th Ave.

I was totally miserable with what I was wearing, so I headed over to the nearest department store. I walked in feeling very "NJ housewife-ish," and came out looking a little more "NY stylish."

I felt much better.

Dinner was fabulous.
We started with an amuse bouche of raw mackeral
(I can hear you saying, "eeeewww!" but it was amazing!),
shared a raw tuna appy, split a to-die for pasta course,
and then we each had the halibut.
It's hard to get excited about fish, but we agreed it may have been
the best fish we've ever had.

For dessert, we ordered homemade donut holes with two dipping sauces...and then, the waiter brought a scrumptious grape and custard tart with two candles for our birthdays, compliments of the chef.
It always tastes better when it's on the house, doesn't it?

By then, we had talked our faces off...
not that we couldn't have continued to talk for another 2 or 3 days,
but it was time for me and my new outfit to go home.

You know how nice it feels when someone compliments you on your outfit?
Well, today, a friend stopped by and told me she loved how my front porch was all decked out for fall.
My flower pots were flattered...look, they're smiling!
In fact, she asked me to come over to her house,
and help to decorate hers.
As soon as I finish this post, I'm heading over to give her a hand.
I better go change.

Junior Goo Shoes just left with his friends for the HS football game,
and Mr. Goo Shoes and I will head out for a bite to eat.

But what should I wear???

Have a great weekend, everyone!

  2. I had one of those what to wear days on Sunday. By the time we left for church my bed was covered with lots of outfits and the one I was wearing was not making me feel anything! I got 2 or 3 compliments on it though so I felt MUCH better! Funny how that is! Love your quickie decorations!

  3. That has happened to me but I never stopped and bought an outfit. I was uncomfortable the entire time. People would pay me compliments but I still felt awful.

  5. That's so nice that you can just run into NYC for the day like that. I also enjoyed hearing about how you and your friend celebrate your b-day's each year. That's such a good idea! I love how your porch looks! It's colorful and balanced. It's no wonder that your neighbor loved it. I love a mix of pumpkins and mums. Your Halloween planters are adorable!

  6. Pret-a-porter porch, I love it! What a lovely display of autumn! And your day in the city sounds like a blast even if it did require a wardrobe change in the middle of the day. Nothing wrong with that!

  25. Seriously, we can tell you are a pro---when it is all balanced and yet has that casual look of 'oh, I just threw this together,' LOL. Then you tell the story of the NJ housewife...dressed to die...not die for in NY. Too cute, Love this post, Sandi
