Are you a book person?
I've got books all over my house.
Although they are in plain sight, I don't always pay attention to them.
They're sort of like background music,
quietly adding to the ambiance, and filling the silence and empty spaces.
Recently, for whatever the reason, I took notice,
realizing that my collection of books speak volumes about my life.
They reveal lifelong passions, interests du jour --
and represent different stages of my life like a multi-volume biography.
If you were to take a look at the books scattered about my house,
you'd be able to read into my life, well, like an open book.

I don't think there is one category that you missed Amy! I adore books, but typically pass them on when I am finished so I don't have nearly as many as you around the house. I would love to have a library though. Then I'd probably keep them.

I took two bags of books to goodwill yesterday---and I was sad...but I have my mother's books too...so having to weed through her fetish and mine...not enough space for the bookshelves in this house. I do think you have all the categories covered, though. Thanks for sharing, your lovely home, Sandi
ReplyDeleteI find a house without books to be terribly sterile. I have books in bookcases, books on tables, on bathroom shelves, in the kitchen, under the couch, under the TV - everywhere! I'd feel insecure if there wasn't something to be read close at hand.

Your story is my story, Amy. Books everywhere. I was so proud of myself for having packed only about half my books to move--two floor to ceiling bookshelves are full of ones I'm leaving behind for an estate sale--but now I saw your Bella Tuscany and wondered how I can possibly leave behind the Frances Mayes books? Going right now to gather them up for packing too!
ReplyDeleteI love books and can't part with any of my collection. They are not out in the open at my house, except my grandchildren's books because I wanted to use my wire basket! I love how you have them everywhere so whenever you feel like a good read, they are right there.

ReplyDeleteYour post reminded me a bit like Dr. Seuss! Ha Ha! You do have a lot of books. My mom is a big reader and has a lot like you too. She has lots of bookcases built in beside her fireplace to house them all. It looks like a library! I have a lot of decorating books and my son has a fair share of books as well. My husband reads most of his on his Ipad. I think it's nice to use them throughout the house as you have.
ReplyDeleteAmy, I love the way you wrote this post-- very well done! I agree, books add an extra dimension that makes a home lively and interesting. I can't imagine living in one without books, and my house is full of them. Although I will admit, I do use my iPad reader function to read books I know I will only read once (mysteries, etc.) and I really love the ability to enlarge the print, since I often struggle to see the tiny print in some hard copy books. By the way, I see quite a few titles/authors in your collection that are currently sitting on my shelves (Frances Mayes, for one-- I adore her books).

ReplyDeleteYou are so right, Amy. The house would be empty without books. I guess we take them for granted until we walk into a space that doesn't have them. Then we feel the space is too sterile or not cozy enough. Thanks for pointing out the obvious! Your home is lovely!
