YESTERDAY IN NEW YORK CITY: FIRST TIME BACK!

Yup, that's right.
Yesterday.
New York City.
I was there.

The last time I was in the city was December.
That's the longest I've been away in 40 years!

Today was my first time back since the pandemic rolled into town.
I would like to say that I went to have some fun,
but truth be told, it was for a doctor's appointment that I'd postponed.

I was in and out of the city in one hour,
but I did have a few minutes to walk around before my appointment.
It didn't take long to notice two things:

1. The streets were empty.
2. Almost everyone was wearing a mask.

Yet, there were signs of life.
People were walking, jogging, biking, shopping, eating.

It felt so good to be back, even for just a short and sweet visit.......
and even if things are not yet back to normal.

I had time to walk over to the reservoir at Central Park.
You know me......
Any chance I get to stare at some water, I take it.

In my quick trip to the city, it was clear to see that
New Yorkers are working hard to keep coronavirus from making a comeback.
So, PLEASE, rest of the country.......
Learn from New York (and New Jersey and Connecticut).......

Wear your masks.
Keep socially distant.

There is scientific evidence that if everyone wore a mask in public,
the U.S. could get COVID-19 under control in 4-8 weeks.
That sounds a heck of a lot better to me than never.

We are all in this together, so let's fight it together.

Mask up, America!

  1. That looks like better social compliance than what I'm seeing here in our capital city. Our numbers are growing. I guess you just can't fix stupid. sigh

  2. I too find I am drawn to water and water views. We are definitely seeing lots of masks (when in stores and building but not so much outside as we live in a pretty sparsely populated area).

  4. Hi Amy. I bet it was strange to be back in NY City and have it be so vacant. Glad everyone was wearing a mask. Glad you could even for a short time have a little time in the city. Have a great evening.

  7. I'm lad you were able to get back to the "wonderful town" even if for a short time. You covered a lot of ground, it seems, and it's nice to see NYC doing the right things. Thanks for posting this. I smile!

  10. Your post was worth waiting for, and for you, your trip! :). Your pics are perfect, portraying the NYC that Governor Cuomo worked so hard to protect from the beginning of the pandemic. If everyone had followed. It's hard to keep up with all of the changes, phases, and re-openings. Chicago is going back to closing the bars (thank you), and limiting groups of people. Michigan has mandated the wearing of masks at all times. It's tricky keeping up with the two states, as it must be for you as well. No matter, I wear the mask, lag behind everyone, and stash hand sanitizer everywhere.

I'm glad to see that you are feeling up! Hope all is well on the medical front.😘

  11. Hi Amy, I love New York!! That city has been through a lot in its history but New Yorkers are resilient. I'm happy to see everyone wearing masks; it's the same in the DC metro too. I don't understand those who will not wear a mask ... what's the big deal! Take care, Joan

  12. I feel like screaming at the tv set when news video shows pictures of large groups of people together not wearing masks. I mean, having to break up Covid parties on streets by helicopter? What is wrong with people?

Your city pics almost don't seem real. Can it really be NYC without crowds? Does it sometimes seem like a end of time movie starring Patrick Swayze? Or has it gone on so long now that it's beginning to seem normal? And that's kind of scary too.

    Be careful!

  13. it is quite inexplicable that masks became such a supercharged political issue when it borders on common sense to wear one. It has become pretty much standard here. But then again, our political leadership has a reasonable degree of sanity, and defers to the medical experts. The health of the nation has not become a political tool.
