"I'd Rather Do Anything But Cook" - Super Easy, Super Fast "Mom's" Meatloaf

Did your Mom make an All-American classic meatloaf?

Mine did, and now I make her recipe fairly often. It's really easy, and both Mr. and Jr. Goo Shoes like it. 

But this isn't that recipe. I'll save that one for another time.

This recipe is Stonewall Kitchen's "Mom's Meatloaf." It was even faster and easier to make than my regular meatloaf, and it was delish!  The Goo Shoes family gave it a 'thumbs up.'

Meatloaf in summer, you ask? Well, do you eat hamburgers in summer?

I rest my case.










I'm a big fan of Stonewall Kitchen's products. No, they are not paying me to say this. As you can see, I don't have any advertising. Yet. 

I love their all-natural, gourmet food products. They make it easy for anyone to cook a good meal.

Even me.  

And you know I'd rather do anything but cook.

I'm always looking for different things to make for my family. The ground rules are that it has to be easy, and it must be healthy.

Look at the ingredients…nothing bad in here. It is kind of high in sugar, but when you think about it per slice, I don't think it's too bad. 








Stonewall Kitchen is based in York, Maine. Their products are available online, but they are also carried in a variety of supermarkets and gourmet shops. 

I had no idea how extensive their line was until I checked out their website.  

I'd love to visit their company store, and their cafe. Especially the cafe! I mean, if their food is good when I cook it…I can only imagine how good it is when they cook it!

Let's get back to the meatloaf. 

I've tried many of Stonewall Kitchen's products, but Mom's Meatloaf Starter caught my eye the other day. It's about $9 for the jar. That sounds like a lot, but when you figure that the meat costs about $5-6, it's a $15 meal.  It serves four to six, depending on everyone's appetite. Not bad.

All you add is ground meat, one egg and breadcrumbs.  Literally 1 -2 -3.  Well, 4, if you count the sauce.




I made this with ground turkey because we try to limit the amount of red meat we eat. I do think I would like it even better with ground beef, but it was tasty with the turkey. The brown sugar and molasses gave it a slightly sweet taste, which is very different from my usual meatloaf. 


It smelled so good when it was cooking.



Here's what you do:

Stonewall Kitchen's "Mom's Meatloaf"

Combine 1 1/2 pounds chilled ground beef (or your favorite ground meat), 3/4 cup of bread crumbs, 1 egg and 3/4 jar of Mom's Meatloaf Starter. Mix well with your hands or a wooden spoon. Place mixture in a greased 9" X 5" loaf pan. Spread remaining meatloaf sauce over the top. Bake in a 350-degree-F oven for 45 - 55 minutes or until a thermometer inserted into the center of the meatloaf has a temperature of 165 degrees F. Allow meatloaf to rest 10 minutes.  Cut into slices. Serves 4-6.

  1. I never cared for meatloaf as a kid, but I love it as an adult. I have my mom's recipe that I use most often, but I like to mix things up a bit and try new versions. This sauce sounds yummy. I've gotten so I use more ground turkey these days too!

  3. I have always loved meatloaf, and have made hundreds over the years. That said...my son-in-law whipped this up one weekend, it was THE BEST I have ever had. Great flavor of bbq and mildly sweet...perfectly dense.

  4. I wanted to like this, but it is way too sweet! I think my family is more used to a savory meatloaf.
