Would you rather be a big fish in a small pond,
or little fish in a big pond?
Both can be good, depending on the situation, of course.
There are times when it's good to be anonymous........
lost in a sea of people;
and other times when the close-knit community
where everyone knows your name feels just right.
I'm grateful to have the best of both worlds........
I live in a small town,
but have easy access to New York City
when I need some cultural stimulation.

As much as I love the Big Apple, it can be overbearing.
The traffic, hordes of people, and honking horns can all be a bit too much.
Thankfully, if you know where to look,
there are oases to be found right in the heart of the city,
In the southeast corner of Central Park,
just off Fifth Avenue and Central Park South
is a pretty little pond, called...........
The Pond.
New Yorkers are nothing if not clever. 😉

Although buses and taxis are whizzing by just above,
it's a surprisingly peaceful and quiet sanctuary situated below street level,
with Manhattan's skyscrapers looming overhead.

Last week, I had an hour to kill before meeting my BFF
for our annual joint birthday celebration.
I ducked into the park and made my way to The Pond.
It was late afternoon, and fall was just starting to show its colors.
At first, I admired The Pond from above,
while standing on Gapstow Bridge,
and then I made my way down to sea level.

I never knew about The Pond! A must stop on our next trip. In the meantime I have to have a talk with my husband about why he never mentioned The Pond!
ReplyDeleteWhat a nice little place tucked away in the middle of crazy! Tell me something....do you see a lot of homeless and/or vagrants/druggies in the park on any given visit? Do police patrol? We live in a small town, but it is our state's capital city, and we are getting inundated with transient vagrants, many of the criminal and addicted kind. It's sad. I would expect it in NYC, San Fran or LA, but not here. Just curious...
ReplyDeleteBeautiful photos and you are such a good story teller.
ReplyDeleteJust went to NY for my infusion. I am not a fan of going to the City. Even when I was healthy enough to walk around it's too much for me. Too many people and now it's too many people walking and texting.
What's up with that? Put the phone in your pocket for 10 minutes
Have a super weekend
Cindy
This is one of my favorite spots in the city! The last time I was there was during the summer and it was a heat wave because we had family visiting from Europe. It was so pretty visiting the same spot as you did and I enjoyed watching people riding in the boats. I enjoyed looking at your pretty photos Amy!

Your photos are just stunning. I've visited in the spring, summer and winter. I think I need an autumn visit!
ReplyDeleteIt's just like two worlds at one place.Superb.
ReplyDeleteLovely shots of Central Park.
ReplyDeleteLovely shots. Be in NYC for a long layover later this month; hoping to see Central Park again.
ReplyDeleteWorth a Thousand Words
Such a calm and serene place to just sit for hours... I visited New York in 2011, though I visited Central park, but I think I didn't visit this very pond.
