THE POND: CENTRAL PARK, NYC

 Would you rather be a big fish in a small pond,
or little fish in a big pond?

Both can be good, depending on the situation, of course. 

There are times when it's good to be anonymous........
lost in a sea of people;
and other times when the close-knit community 
where everyone knows your name feels just right.

I'm grateful to have the best of both worlds........
I live in a small town,
but have easy access to New York City 
when I need some cultural stimulation. 

 As much as I love the Big Apple, it can be overbearing. 
The traffic, hordes of people, and honking horns can all be a bit too much. 
Thankfully, if you know where to look,
there are oases to be found right in the heart of the city, 

In the southeast corner of Central Park, 
just off Fifth Avenue and Central Park South
is a pretty little pond, called...........
The Pond.  
New Yorkers are nothing if not clever. 😉

Although buses and taxis are whizzing by just above,
it's a surprisingly peaceful and quiet sanctuary situated below street level, 
with Manhattan's skyscrapers looming overhead. 

Last week, I had an hour to kill before meeting my BFF 
for our annual joint birthday celebration.
I ducked into the park and made my way to The Pond.
 It was late afternoon, and fall was just starting to show its colors.

At first, I admired The Pond from above,

while standing on Gapstow Bridge,
and then I made my way down to sea level. 

I'm quite fond of The Pond.
