I want to go everywhere I haven't been, and back to everywhere I have been.

About

A LITTLE HISTORY:

In September, 2012, I handed in my keys to the corner office, and walked away from corporate life.  For 30+ years, I was an executive at a popular TV network, where I decided what time some of your favorite shows would air. I got to do some pretty cool stuff, like meet famous people, and walk the red Emmy carpet, but it was time to move on.

The idea of leaving a life-long career was exhilarating…...and terrifying. Everyone told me I had to reinvent myself, but I wasn't ready. All I wanted to do was clean out every closet in my house. I hung up my dress-for-success clothes, and pulled my domestic genes out of storage.

After the closets were neat and tidy, I decided to start blogging. I didn't really know what a blog was, but after some research, I taught myself the basics, and jumped in with both feet. I had no idea what I was doing.

I started out as a lifestyle blogger, writing about my metamorphosis from career life to domestic life, and anything and everything that piqued my interest. After three decades of all work and not much time to play, I enjoyed spending quality time with my guilty pleasures.  There were lots of recipes, posts about my house, my family, and occasionally, my real passion, travel. You can still find these posts in my archives.

As much as I enjoyed being a lifestyle blogger, after five years, I felt like I was still trying to figure out what my blog should be. The only time I truly felt like I was in my zone was when I wrote about travel. The words just flowed, and my passion for it came through.

WHY I CHANGED MY BLOG:

One day, it hit me......I want to be a travel blogger.

But how can one be a travel blogger if one is not traveling most of the time?

Well, I'll need to be a little creative about that, and I have lots of ideas. For one thing, I'll be focusing more on New York City, which is not a travel destination for me, but it probably is for you!

When I think about it, travel is truly a part of my everyday self, regardless of whether I am halfway around the world, or sitting on the couch watching a travel show. My picture frames are filled with family travel photos; my bookshelves are stocked with travel books; my home is overflowing with souvenirs; my coffee table is covered in travel books I have made; and my mailbox is stuffed with travel magazines.

In fact, I have self-diagnosed myself with incurable wanderlust.

And so, in October, 2018, I officially proclaimed myself a travel blogger (read that post here).

Rather than wipe out the history of my original blog, it's all still here, under Recipes, Home Decor, Holidays, etc. Just check out the topics on my sidebar, or use the search button.

Whether you're passionate about travel, or happy to stay close to home, I hope you'll do some armchair traveling with me.

WHAT ABOUT THAT NAME?

You may be wondering where the name Ms. Toody Goo Shoes came from. Years ago, my best friend meant to call me "Miss Goody Two Shoes" but it came out as "Miss Toody Goo Shoes." It stuck, and has been a part of our personal vernacular for the last 20+ years, so much so, that it takes real concentration to say it the right way. It's a little silly, which implies that none of this should be taken too seriously!

QUICK FACTS ABOUT ME:

I was born and raised in New Jersey, lived in Manhattan for 20+ years, and once again, call NJ home.

I'm married to a wonderful guy, who I refer to as "Mr. Goo Shoes" in this blog. I am an "older" mom (but not that old!) to an awesome son (dubbed "Junior Goo Shoes") who is now a college student. We have a sweet Cockapoo named Sadie.

Besides travel, I love cheese, shoes, the NY Giants, shopping, avocados, shoes, decorating magazines, making digital photo books, cilantro, baking, writing…and have I mentioned shoes?

  1. I find this most intriquing as I too am reinventing my life as a retired nurse - doing what I always wanted to do when I did not have the time. Now I am able to pursue all those little pathways that were just a dream for so many years... so will enjoy reading as you too find these new pathways....

  3. This is a wonderful introduction to your blog. I popped over from Debbie Doos Pinterest Blitz party. Wow! I've got to update my intro page, in fact, my whole blog layout. I'm following along now. I too, left the the working world of 8-5 where I worked for many years at a large well-known university and medical school. I never made it to the corner office, but I loved my career and am learning to play and do all the things I wanted to do but was too tired after working all day!

  5. I enjoyed reading this so much. I appreciate your bloggy friendship and I am grateful that you join the fun at the Thursday Favorite Things blog hop. I left 23 years of management in the medical field and then 7 years in management for a brokerage to "start again".Because of a medical condition I know longer work outside the home. Instead I put my passions of creating ans sharing to work for me with my online shops, blog design site and my favorite thing, Katherines Corner. Sharing and getting to be bloggy friends with people as sweet as you. is a gift I treasure. Hugs!

  6. Amy, I really enjoyed reading this bio. I suspect we have a lot in common, as I gave up a design career in the Fashion Industry a few years back. I also live in New Jersey too... :-) The blog thing is newer for me - just 4 months now, but I'm really enjoying. Will definitely check out more of your blog. Best, Lory

  7. Just found your blog and love it............I especially like that you shared quite a bit in the "about me" section. Many blogs just have a sentence or two. I'm also an "older" mom! Thanks!

  9. What program do you use to make your digital photo books? I'm having to learn BookWright from Blurb. I had used their BookSmart for 4 or 5 years but they stopped supporting it/ and I got a new laptop. I like it. I like working offline.
