TRAVEL THROWBACK: CANALS OF BRUGES

There's a reason Bruges is called "The Venice Of The North." #belgium | Ms. Toody Goo Shoes

How many ways can Bruges steal your heart?
Let me count the ways.

1. The History (it's been around since the Bronze Age
(not the oil-rubbed Bronze Age, the real one as in 3,000 BC).
2. The Architecture.
3. The Chocolates.
4. The Belgian Waffles.
5. The Windmills.
6. The Chocolates.
(Trust me, they should be counted twice).

But there was one more thing that had my heart a'pittering and a'pattering.

7. The Canals.
   💗

Bruges, in the northwest corner of Belgium, is nicknamed "Venice of the North."
Like its more famous canal sister,
it's best to explore this magnificent city
by wandering through its streets and alleyways,
deliberately getting lost in the most delightful way.
Look at it this way........
you could always stop into a chocolate shop and ask for directions. 😉

  1. I thought, Wow, that first shot! But then there was one after another equally as gorgeous. Is it just that it's reflected in the water and so is shown twice, or what? Breathtaking! I think that Bruges would be my kind of city, Amy, but then who wouldn't love it? Each one of your 7 points would score huge with me. And then there's the thought of topping Belgian waffles with chocolate, hmm? I think I could pig out as much on the architecture as the food though. Isn't it nice that the brain is capable of holding so many beautiful images? Otherwise yours could never contain everything you've seen! You do such an amazing job of capturing them with your camera and creatively sharing them here.

  5. What fabulous photos! We watched a Hallmark movie the other night set in Bruges (or at least the backdrop film footage was). I was fascinated, not aware of the canal structure. Your photos are so crisp, the natural lighting seemed perfect for your shots.

  9. What lovely architecture! We spent some time in Brussels many years ago, and I was in awe of the history, and the age of the buildings there.
