Does the weather feel anything like spring in your neck of the woods?
Here in NJ, the ground is still covered in snow,
the temperatures are chilly enough to demand a down jacket and scarf,
and no tulips are in sight,
other than my own two lips, chapped from cold weather.
This is no different from years past, I'm well-aware.
It's not unusual for March to go out like a lamb some time in April.
Every year, to hold me over until Mother Nature delivers the real deal,
I bring a little bit of spring indoors.
Hyacinths add some life to the bedroom....
Daffodils brighten up the kitchen.....
The buffet gets some springy decor.
I have to be content with using faux forsythia......
in the powder room......
or in a faux flower rain boot vase.......
until the real forsythia begins to bloom.
It will be a few weeks longer until........
April showers bring May flowers.......
the trees to begin to bloom......
the red, red robins come bob-bob-bobbin' along.....
It will take another month, at least, until it's warm enough.......
to plant some pansies.....
to sit on the deck.......
and see the spring bulbs dancing around the mailbox.
Yes, Spring is here.....
I'm just waiting for it to arrive.

ReplyDeleteAmy, nice to meet you here on the Spring Blog Tour. What I noticed most was your comment about waiting until it is warm enough to plant pansies. Here in North Texas, we plant pansies in the fall and they are gone by April. We consider them a fall and winter plant. Funny how our different climates affect our flower esthetic. Our temperatures will be in the 80's this week and we are loving this warm weather. But come July, we'll be wishing we were in NJ.
ReplyDeleteHi Amy! I lived in NYC for a while and I remember the cold March days and the longing for a spring that took it's time arriving in the city. Now I live in South Texas and the days are warm and getting warmer by the minute. You did a great job of bringing the season of spring to life in your home and I know that it will bring so much beauty to your lovely yard very soon. I agree with Carol, come July we Texans will be longing for some cool weather.

Super cute! I love the reflection in the mirror!! It has been beautiful spring like weather here lately, (sorry) :) Suppose to rain tomorrow and we need it. I've been raking beds and they are dry. My Forsythia is in bud, but not quite blooming yet. Hope spring comes to your neck of the woods soon!

Your flowers inside are so pretty! Sorry to hear that Spring hasn't landed at your house yet. It has landed here and brought allergies with it. I'm not complaining though since the sun feels so good. We only got 1 weekend of snow here this year. But when you're celebrating Spring it will feel like summer here. We have more warm months than cold. Sometimes that's a bad thing. It gets TOO hot here. So, I'll take the mild 60-70 degree temps for now. It will not last after April.

ReplyDeleteI am with you Amy, I know we are used to this in NJ but it doesn't make any more fun to deal with the snow on the ground. Even if the temps rise a bit the snow still keeps that chill in the air. Waiting for warmer days too. The next thing will be rain, that's NJ, LOL

I do love Spring bulb plants inside at this dreary time of year. The weather needs to make up it's mind! I haven't decorated for Spring yet but there is nothing stopping me from get some wonderful smelling hyacinths in a pot. Thanks for waking me up out of my winter slumber!

ReplyDeleteI don't use faux flowers because I never seen anything realistic. Where do you buy your faux flowers?
Fresh and faux flowers are the perfect way to get through the end of winter! I live in Texas where the winters are mild, but I used to live in Illinois. Sometimes it seemed like winter would never end, but finally spring would arrive and everyone would be in such a cheery mood. It was awesome.

Matter of fact the night before Spring they were picking up snow piles from plowing and placing on trucks and taking it away to free parking spaces hoping for Spring celebration diners. I think your Spring décor looks classy and welcoming. You always leave us inspired.

Pansies are a winter flower in Texas! This is the time when we are replacing them with something that can take the heat. Love your mailbox with the beautiful blooms.

ReplyDeleteYou know how to fake Spring until it arrives. :) Everything is lovely inside. Now if only your outside would catch up.
Spring is lingering in north Texas, but not for long. Our temperatures are already hitting the 80s. But our glorious bluebonnets are in full bloom, not at their peak yet, but all along the roadsides. For those in the area, here is a bluebonnet sighting alert. I had to go to Dallas this morning and all along Spur 408 from I-20 to I-30 there were large patches bluebonnets.
Soon, Amy, you will be seeing all your spring flowers outside, too. Thanks for sharing your home filled with Spring.

It's the time of year when the flowers get confused - they start to bloom then a couple of cold days make them stagnate again
