What do you see when you look in the mirror?
Usually I see someone who could use a few botox injections, but sometimes...
...if I look really hard -- past my own reflection -- it's everyday life that is staring back at me.
When I look in the entrance hall mirror, I see...
Company ringing the doorbell.
A last look at myself before dashing out the of the house.
Ten pairs of boys' smelly sneakers on a Friday night.
Sadie, always there to greet us, her tail wagging furiously.
Backpacks, Sweatshirts, Shopping bags, Shoes, Mail...oh why can't they put their stuff in the Mud Room???
Walls that can talk, saying, "Welcome Home."
In the living room mirrors, I see...
Family and friends talking and laughing.
A glove under the coffee table that's been
missing for days...uh, again, Sadie?
missing for days...uh, again, Sadie?
A cozy spot where someone is napping.
A stairway to heavenly beds at the end of the day.
When I look in the guest bathroom mirror, I see...
Junior Goo Shoes' friends wiping their grimy hands on
my good guest towels.
my good guest towels.
A shower that no one ever uses.
A bottle from Greece...a tray from Italy and
a $7 vase from TJ Maxx :)
Dust bunnies under the radiator??? What the what?
Looking into the upstairs hallway mirror, I see...
Feet coming down the hallway to say "I can't sleep".
A makeover I am proud of.
A gallery of family photos smiling at me.
Sadie sneaking down the hall with a stolen sock.
Doors to our bedroom sanctuaries.
When I look in my own bathroom mirror, I see...
Wrinkles that weren't there yesterday...were they?
A bathroom I'd like to re-do.
A clawfoot tub that only the dog uses.
The scale that says "I told you not to eat those
cookies, didn't I?"
And...
cookies, didn't I?"
And...
Someone who can look herself in the mirror
and at least say she's trying the best she can.
These are all such pretty pictures. Important too, we sometimes can forget what you will see when we hang mirrors. Loving that toile wallpaper. I am a big toile fan!!! All of these mirrors are gorgeous too.
ReplyDeleteCynthia
Thanks, Cynthia! Glad you enjoyed, from one toile fan to another!
DeleteAlmost as lovely as seeing all of this in person. Nice job, as always.
ReplyDeleteThanks, Phyllis :) I always appreciate your comments.
DeleteI love hearing about the reflections you see in your mirrors. It's truly what makes a house a home though! I can relate to some of those last ones too. I don't like those reflections so well myself.
ReplyDeleteSometimes we forget to notice the little things. Glad my mirrors reminded me -- except maybe about the scale part ;)
DeleteAmy, a beautiful collection of mirrors, each one reflecting a warm and comforting space, personal and familiar, pretty and precious, safe havens from a sometimes, scary world.
ReplyDeleteEnjoyed the 'imagery' here today, as well as your commentary, which is, clearly, a reflection of your sweet heart!
Poppy
It's funny how this post unfolded, Poppy. I intended for it to be just a show of mirrors, but it then took on a life of it's own! I'm sure you've experienced that, too!
DeleteAmy, this is a perfectly lovely post, not just because of the pretty mirrors and your style reflected in them but because you obviously "see" life reflected in them and are wise enough to appreciate it as it passes right before your nose.
ReplyDeleteI bet that some of these photographs even caught you by surprise, letting you see something through the camera lens that you might have passed by a dozen times a day.
Very good post!
You couldn't be more right...not only was I surprised by what I saw through my lens, I was surprised about the whole direction the post took. I started out with just a regular feature about all the different mirrors, but when I went to walk the dog, the "reflections" theme just popped right into my head. Walking the dog gets my creative juices flowing!
DeleteAdorable post! I love all your beautiful mirrors.
ReplyDeleteThank you, Dee! I love them too, especially when I really, really look into them ;)
DeleteWhat a clever post! I love all the mirrors and the stories they reflect. Enjoy all those afternoons of shoe-filled hallways, raided fridge and towels made grimy by teen hands - they fly past so quickly.
ReplyDeleteThank you...I am definitely trying to savor the moments...even the grimy hands on my towels! If it really bothered me, I would have put them away ;)
DeleteAmy- What a wonderful, wonderful post! I LOVE it! You have made the mirrors magical! xoDiana
ReplyDeleteI guess they were magical all along, Diana, I just never noticed!
DeleteI see a house that needs some clutter control! Yikes! Mine...not yours!
ReplyDeleteThere's nothing like having to photograph my house for a blog post to get me to straighten up!
DeleteThis is brilliant! What a great post. Your mirrors are beautiful and the reflections in pictures and words are delightful. Enjoy the shoes in your hallway and the grimy towels - these are the days!
ReplyDeleteI'm trying to slow it down by savoring it, Rosella! I'm glad you enjoyed the post!
DeleteCharming post! A great Idea, we can see your life through your mirrors.
ReplyDeleteMarina
Hi Marina, I started out just thinking I'd do a "tour" of mirrors, but it just happened this way!
DeleteWonderful moments of reflection, and I love your way of seeing through to what really counts!
ReplyDeleteP.S.: Yes, you should try coal in their shoes, not too late for a saint who was a good-hearted human being to nudge those sweet little rascals into reflecting, er, simply put the shoes where they belong. ;-)
Thanks, Merisi, it's amazing what you see when you really look. And, I'm going to buy that coal soon :-)
DeleteLove it! What a great idea for a post...it was beautiful and a slice of real life.
ReplyDeleteCookies my foot....it was those pumpkin donuts....:)
Hahaha, Deb! It WAS the pumpkin donuts! Glad you liked the post.
DeleteAt the end of the day if we can look in the mirror and be OK with the reflection I think that's success. Loved this.
ReplyDeleteI agree, Ann! So far, I'm ok with what I see!
DeleteI am going to look at reflection in all my mirrors when I get home....great post :)
ReplyDeleteI hope you do, Liz! It makes you slow down for a few minutes, and savor the small stuff. Enjoy your gazing!
DeleteGlad you liked it, Claire! I hope you do finish the post you are working on about life going by quickly! And now I want to know about that tub you no longer have!
ReplyDeleteOh wow you have beautiful mirrors and so many. I love mirrors too and i hav e quite a few in the Home. Maybe I will get to make photo,s like yours someday . I like the idea. Have a nice weekend
ReplyDeleteI think I shocked myself with how many mirrors I have! I never really thought about it until now. I think I have a mirror "fetish!"
DeleteI love all your mirrors and I love this post. What a fabulous reminder of all the things we can reflect on.
ReplyDeleteThanks, Katie. It all goes by so fast, it's hard to slow down sometimes and notice the little things around us.
DeleteBeautiful!! Love all your mirrors. But I would so be using that claw foot tub. I have a teeny tiny one and dream of a big deep one.
ReplyDeleteI know, Elaine, I really such use that tub! There just never seems to be time. I think you have inspired me to find the time, though!
DeleteI'm late catching up on posts, but I had already seen your pictures on Pinterest and they are so lovely and very artistic. I love those mirrors with the candles on them and the toile you used.
ReplyDeleteThanks, Magali. I am such a toile person. I have it in my bedroom, too.
DeleteDearest Amy, I am happy for you. All of your mirrors are filled with smiles and blessings, just the way they should be.
ReplyDeletep.s. My scale says the same thing to me. lol
Catherine xoxo
Don't you just hate those talking scales, Catherine?!?!
DeleteYou have a lot of mirrors! And they are all beautiful and would go perfect in my home! Great post! I love the way you put the reflections of the mirrors in each room to words. Each day I look in my mirror I become more accepting....of the things I cannot change! They say that happens with age :)
ReplyDeleteThanks, AnnMarie! Glad you liked the post. Yes, at this point, it makes sense to be more accepting, doesn't it?
DeleteLife goes by too fast sometimes. It is good and to stop and look in the mirror a little. Great post!
ReplyDeleteSherry
Thanks, Sherry, yes, it does go by too fast...it's flying!
DeleteThis is such a beautiful post. I enjoyed the "picture perfect" aspect of all your photos and the less-than-perfect sentiments that you expressed. The mirror with the pressed foliage is my favorite. It's so unique.
ReplyDeleteThanks so much, Michele. It wasn't how I first intended to write the post, but it just came out that way. I love the foliage mirror, too. It's actually part of a set of four.
DeleteThis is really lovely! You have some gorgeous mirrors - what they reflect is beautiful too - especially you! I will be featuring your post in this week's A Return to Loveliness,
ReplyDeleteKathy
That's, great, Kathy! I'm looking forward to seeing all of your features! Thank you!
DeleteThis is such a marvelous post! I do appreciate you sharing with Home and Garden Thursday,
ReplyDeletekathy
Thank YOU for hosting the party, Kathy!
DeleteI like how just a view into your home from the mirror gives you the perspective on the life that occurs all around your home. And might I add, your house is beautiful! Stopping by from #LOBS
ReplyDeleteThanks so much, Gracielle. Sometimes we're so busy, we don't notice the life around us. I know I am guilty of that! Thanks for stopping by!
DeleteWhat a wonderful creative post. You can never have too many mirrors when there's something pretty to reflect. :)
