For me, it's sometimes, yes, and sometimes, no.
I'm not exactly sure why I've got strong willpower one day,
and none the next.
One thing is consistent, though.......
the hours between dinner and bedtime are when my snack-cravings are strongest.
That's roughly a five-hour period each night during which
my self-control mechanisms need to be in top working order.
It's a challenge, because, as soon as dinner is finished,
I'm already thinking about what I can eat next.
To slow myself down, I play a little game,
and tell myself that I must wait until 8:00pm to have a snack.
Throughout the evening, there's a lot of intrapersonal communication going on,
as I try to talk myself out of raiding the fridge and pantry.
Self-bribery is often involved,
promising rewards for avoiding temptations
that constantly call to me from behind closed cabinet doors.
To curb my snacking enthusiasm, I limit myself to two small, healthy snacks a night.
My best bets are foods that come with built-in portion control,
such as small bags of nuts, or those squeezy apple sauce thingies.

On most nights, however, at 7:59pm, you'll find me counting down the seconds
until I can tear into a single-serve bag of Crispy Fruit (affil. link).
I discovered Crispy Fruit (affil. link) several months ago
while I was wandering around a supermarket......STARVING.......
desperately in search of something healthy to munch on in the car.
(Do you ever do that?)
The packaging of this freeze-dried "100% Pure Fruit" product caught my eye,
but the fact that it has no added sugar, is non-GMO, all natural, low-calorie, and gluten-free,
is what prompted me to toss a bag of mango Crispy Fruit (affil. link) into my shopping cart.
I've been buying it ever since.
When the Crispy Green company recently offered me some samples to write a review,
I was happy to do it, as I already knew that I loved the product,
and it gave me a chance to try other flavors.
I like them all, by the way, with mango and pineapple at the top of my list.
Between the satisfying crispy texture, and at less than 55 calories per bag,

I admit that sometimes, limiting myself to one bag is tough.
It's tempting to open up a bunch of different flavors,
and make a big crispy fruit salad.
Not that I've ever done that, of course.
Now, if you'll excuse me, it's just about time for my 8:00pm snack.

Ooo - it's after 8 here and those sure do look good to me!! I've never seen them before - wonder if they are available in Canada? Thanks for the review and BTW I struggle too with that time after dinner and before bed - oh, and also around 3:30 p.m. ugh!!!
ReplyDeleteI believe they are available in Canada, Rosella. You can order them on Amazon, too (just click on the link in my post on where you see the words "Crispy" Fruit" shaded out in gray). Hope all is well!
DeleteWe are getting a Whole Foods in the fall and I'll be they'll have them there. They sound like what I have been wishing for!
ReplyDeleteLooks appetizing! Well photographed!
ReplyDeleteI have never tried it but your photos make it look delicious ! :)
ReplyDeleteLooks fantastic. I'll have to give it a try.
ReplyDeleteHi Amy,
ReplyDeleteI've never tried them but I will. My snacks are either ice cream or fresh fruit but not every night.
xoxo,
Vera
I've never heard of these before. I like portion controlled snacks like that too. I will have to look for these. The banana flavor looks good to me.
ReplyDeleteFunny Amy, I was just saying to myself, hop over to my and see what's going on and this post showed up.
ReplyDeleteI never heard of this product. It may be because I am never in the food store anymore. John does it because it cane be taxing on me.
I know I have been on a fresh berry overload lately. The raspberries and blackberries are awesome right now.

Looks Yummy Amy. I am like you too. I love to snack between the end of dinner and bedtime mostly if I am watching TV. These look so good I will have to try them.

Nighttime just before bed, is my trigger time too. I can't sleep if I'm at all hungry. These look delish, especially the mango. I've never seen them in our neck of the woods though. I'll keep my eyes peeled.
ReplyDeleteThey sound interesting! My craving time is 10 am and 3 pm, not so much after dinner so these are perfect for those times too. I am always looking for healthy snacks like those in Aldi's and Trader Joe's.
ReplyDeleteI have not seen these...but will keep my eye out for this. I love fruit...and I love snacks. :-)
ReplyDeleteYum! These look so good and I love a healthy snack.
