Now that spring is officially here,
I hope that Jack Frost is no longer nipping at your nose,
and you are done with picking frost out of your eyebrows.
But, early spring is finicky.
Just when you think it's safe to put away your snow boots,
there will be a knock at your door.......
and it won't be the Amazon guy.
It'll be Old Man Winter.
back for an encore delivery of cold and snow.
I'm sorry.
I don't mean to rub it in while I sit here shvitzing (translation: sweating, in Yiddish)
at the pool in Florida.......
Truly, I'm not trying to flaunt my palm palms 🌴🌴
in your face.
In fact, I'm offering a free session of visualization therapy,
to help you cope with post-traumatic-winter-stress-disorder,
by virtually transporting you to a warm and tropical place.
Remember "Calgon, take me away "???
Well, consider me your Calgon, and today,
I'm taking you to Red Reef Park in Boca Raton, Florida.
Red Reef Park is a 67-acre ocean front recreation area
featuring snorkel reefs, a golf course, walking trails........
and the star attraction, in my opinion.......
the magnificent beach.
The park is located between Florida's
Intracoastal Waterway and the Atlantic Ocean.
Scenic highway Route A1A
separates the park into two distinct areas.
The Intracoastal side of the park is primarily
a 9-hole golf course.
It was cloudy the day I was there,
so the pictures are a little dark.
This side of the park also offers magnificent views
of spectacular homes on the water
that sell for bazillions of dollars,
many of which have yachts docked outside their doors.
It's a great place to pull up a bench and watch the boats go by.
The main area of the park is across the street.
Before crossing over the dunes to the beach,
you will find a picnic area, playground, and rest rooms.
For many people, snorkeling at the southern end of the park
is the main draw, although not for me.
I've got a better chance of becoming a mermaid
than ever going snorkeling again.
My last experience was many years ago in Hawaii,
where I got scraped up on a coral reef.
I'll stick to a glass bottom boat, thank you very much.
To me, a highlight of Red Reef Park
is a series of boardwalks and walkways.......
They wind through lush banyan and seagrape trees.......
A leisurely stroll along this trail
provides a shady respite from the Florida heat.
There are benches along the way to sit and take in the views,
or rest your tootsies.
There's even a pavilion where you might be
lucky enough to take a yoga class overlooking the ocean.
Namaste.
The paths lead to various entry points along the beach,
one prettier than the next.
Whichever entry point you choose,
you will find yourself on a beautiful stretch of seashore.
Lifeguard shacks are spaced along the beach.
In addition to providing a important safety service,
I find them to be quite photogenic.
So.......
have I succeeded in helping you
to enjoy a brief respite from the winter doldrums?
I certainly hope so.
And, in case I've failed,
you can take solace in the fact that I will
soon be heading back to the northeast,
where Old Man Winter just might be ringing my doorbell
upon my return.
Boy, will that hurt.

ReplyDeleteSuch a lovely place to visit. I love palm trees. We don't need to get away because we have lots of sunshine right now. It was 85 degrees the other day. Red Reef Park looks lovely. I don't snorkel anymore either. Thanks for taking me along to a wonderful place in Florida.
ReplyDeleteWhat a beautiful park. Oh how I wish I were there to enjoy this too. Thanks for taking us along. Cold here and rain. No signs of a nice spring yet! Enjoy that warmth. xoxo Kris
ReplyDeleteOh yes please! That looks lovely. I haven't packed away any winter gear yet because I fall for early spring each year and am always caught unprepared. I did pack away my fleece lined leggings and really thick woold sweaters and pulled out a few cute spring tops to just look at and tempt myself.
ReplyDeletei know this will shock you, Amy, but not all of us long for Florida and are perfectly content to spend our winters with Snowy Owls, Snow Buntings and children building snow men, with winter festivals, and skating on frozen ponds, and long walks on a snowy night. Having said that, I would be perfectly happy to walk though the park at daybreak, in the cool of the day, and I am sure that the bird life would be terrific. It would dismay me to no end, however, to think that even one cent of my hard earned retirement income went to support the regime of DeSantis. That would be the dealbreaker for me. Soon you will back in the north anyway. ,
ReplyDeleteI really enjoy the poetic way that you write; that is relaxing too! Glad you could enjoy the warm weather! I've gotten pretty warm working on fixing up our old farmhouse... which we move into tomorrow even though it's not quite ready.
ReplyDeleteI'll take free visualization therapy any day! It looks wonderful. And yes, it's now snowing here (today) but 40s is still a little nippy when there isn't that wonderful bright blue sky you shared! Happy day and weekend and enjoy it all!
ReplyDeleteWhat perfect timing for this post Amy. It's been cold and dreary here and looking at this park and beach has warmed me up. This looks like such a fun park to visit for the day and I love the pretty beach. Enjoy the weekend Amy.
ReplyDeleteWhat a beautiful place. The weather isn't too bad here in Georgia, but boy do I miss the water. xo Laura
ReplyDeleteHa, ha, I laughed out loud...at shvitzing! My grandmother never shvitzed, she swore she glistened. Fun post and you are forgiven for being mean...lol, because we are facing 5 days of rotten temps and probably snow on three. Such is Chicago---enjoy your lovely park and I find it hard to believe a cooler of 'juice' wouldn't contain any alcohol in such a lovely park, Pass the Mohitos? Please! Have fun---!Sandi
ReplyDeleteWow, what a beautiful place. Thanks for the walk.
ReplyDeleteOh it looks perfect. It is snowing here today :(
ReplyDeleteIt looks beautiful, what a great place for a get-away! Thank you for taking us with you, it was a very enjoyable little virtual vacation. Like Sandi, my grandmama "glowed" - I'm still trying to perfect that as a lady should. : ) Lidy
ReplyDeleteYour pretty pictures are making me crave sunny warm days. There just haven't been enough of them here yet. I hope the warmth follows you back up north....minus the humidity!
ReplyDeleteI live in South Florida too ( Sunny Isles) and love exploring the beautiful parks that Florida shares. I've never been to the one you shared in Boca, but will put it on my list. Thanks for a beautiful post.
ReplyDeleteThis looks like a lovely place to visit!
ReplyDeleteThank you for sharing at https://image-in-ing.blogspot.com/2022/04/ukranian-church-national-shrine-of-holy.html
Such a beautiful place!
ReplyDeleteI enjoyed the delightful walk with you.
So beautiful there. I can hear the palm leaves rustling in the wind now. :)
ReplyDeleteStill chilly here with snow yesterday, but spring won't be denied.
Have a lovely week...
Thank you I needed a little bit of beach and sunshine. Our weather is getting warmer, but still frost at night and rain in the day time. Between me and my fur-babies we are longing for more sunshine and warm weather to get outside and play in. Thanks for sharing :)
ReplyDeleteCatching up today with your wonderful posts and this one did take me to the land of rustling palm leaves -- something we don't have here. While on the topic of traveling, I wanted to mention that TBEX, the travel bloggers exchange is having a bloggers conference in Europe in Kalamata, in fact!!, in May. They have one each year in North America and one in Asia and one in Europe. I am so pumped that they selected Kalamata. Wondering if you might be in attendance???
