About a year ago, I met a blogger, Joani, from Joani's Parenting Tip of the Day,
but that was just for a minute to say hello
after she gave a talk at a bookstore to promote her book.
Aside from that, all of my blogging friendships remain one-dimensional...
digital "Flat Stanleys," if you will.
I carry them around wherever I go, via laptop or cell phone,
caring about them in the same way I do my 3D friends.
Real voices are unknown; heard only in my head
in the way I envision them from the stories they tell
and their "About Me" photos.
But last week, I finally met my first blog friend!
And who was she?
Julie, from Julie's Lifestyle!
Julie is a lifestyle blogger, writing a little bit about everything...
cooking, crocheting, makeup, travel and more.
She started blogging almost three years ago,
after being inspired by her teenage daughter.
A couple of weeks ago, I got an email from Julie,
saying, since she lived in the NY area, maybe we could meet one day.
And so, on the HOTTEST and MOST HUMID day of the summer so far...
a very bad hair day, I might add...
we did just that.
I should have known we would hit it off big time
when we both came up with the EXACT SAME SUGGESTION as to where to meet.
(It was Le Pain Quotidien, btw).
Now, granted, we did narrow down our rendezvous spot to the West 40's,
but friends, do you know how many places
we could have met within that 10 block stretch?
It didn't take us long to realize we had a LOT in common.
Our conversation went something like this:
"Blah-bitty--blah-blah-blah."
"Me, TOO!"
Blibbity blah blah-bitty blah."
"Me, TOO!"
This pretty much went on the entire two hours that we spent together.
We talked about everything...
and compared blogging notes, of course.
And, Julie surprised me with a little gift that she had crocheted!
I was so touched!
Julie is absolutely lovely, and I'm so happy we met!
If you are not familiar with her blog,
click here and check it out
I look forward to getting together with Julie again!
Maybe next time, YOU will join us, if you live in the NY area,
or come for a visit?
We're saving you a seat!

You know I've already talked to you about the blog friend I met a few weeks ago, Benita of Chasing Quaintness, and it was exactly like you wrote about here….talk, talk, talk. I think we bloggers get to know each other so well from our blogs and emails that we are already many rungs up on the ladder of friendship. And isn't that a wonderful thing!
ReplyDeleteHow sweet to meet up with Julie. She is so sweet and it is so much fun to put a voice with the bloggers.
ReplyDeleteGlad you had a great time.

It's such a lovely surprise - even though you know in your heart-of-hearts that you'll be kindred spirits - to meet a blog friend and recognise a real friend. I am still so touched by the lovely Waterlogue picture you sent to me of Pondside House.
ReplyDeleteI haven't been around a lot lately, but stop by to read when I can.
Amy, how nice to meet you. I also met Julie, she is a delightful lady and we had so much fun.together.
ReplyDeleteI will be following your blog.
Have a great rest of the week.
Mary
How lovely to have found a new friend!
ReplyDeleteHow fun!! I have often thought that when we get back to NYC I would look you up to meet at one of the places you mention in your blog. I wouldn't have a clue where to start!

ReplyDeleteIt must have been a great opportunity for the two of you to connect and gab about life, blogging, and the humidity - lol!
ReplyDeleteIt sounds like the two of you really hit it off in person. I always think it's fun to meet someone in person that you've only known online, although my kids are completely prohibited from doing the same thing.
ReplyDeleteHow sweet you had the chance to meet one of your blogging friends. I think I'd love to meet other bloggers I know from online as well. I'm also nervous, because sometimes I can be weird meeting new people, even if I "know" them lol. Maybe, hopefully, one day I'll meet a few! :)
