How's your summer going -- crossing a lot of things off your "Summer To-Do" list?
Me? I've been really lazy this summer...
doing only what I want to do, or absolutely have to do,
and you know what?
It feels really good!
One of the things on my summer "Want To Do" list
was trying to attract hummingbirds to my backyard.
Last summer, I was not successful because I made a few mistakes,
and I was determined to do better this year.
I succeeded!
I am so enamored with these tiny birds,
that I spend a ridiculous amount of time on the deck,
often in my bathrobe,
photographing them like crazy.
This has not been good for my reputation around the neighborhood,
but the hummingbirds hold me in high esteem.

I love hummingbirds! I was just telling a friend last night how we are seeing a lot of them this year on our Rose of Sharon bush. We have to be careful about feeding any sort of birds here because of the bears, but I've found if you plant certain types of flowers, bushes, etc., it's just as good.

Oh I love lazying in summer :) I mean I do have fun activities but un general I don't make strict plans and schedule. Hummingbirds are adorable.

Hi Amy! We love them too and treasure these last couple of months before they leave. We usually only have about six with 2 feeders out but yesterday I looked out and there were at least a dozen all fighting over the 2 feeders. I called my husband at work and said, "Buy more feeders!" He only bought one more but the dozen seem to be sticking around. However, we've never had as much problem with honeybees swarming the feeders as today. Maybe we need more plants that draw the honeybees to them and away from the feeders?
ReplyDeleteLOL I just came over to see what you were up to and you have to add one! :) I had a hummingbird that would buzz by and leave. Well if you don't see spiderwebs in the early morning light you might miss them...and for some reason they love the feeders! I was just dealing with this and sent miss spider on her way ...coincidence to see your great post not too long afterwards. Aren't they so sweet? I just hold my breath and enjoy when mine comes around...

ReplyDeleteHi Mo, I use a Nikon 3300. After much trial and error, I got the best pictures using the Shutter Priority mode: used a super-fast shutter speed (1/4000) and shot photos in bright sunlight. ISO 2500; f/5.6). I stood about 6 feet away, with a 200mm zoom.
DeleteMy only focus this summer has been my tiny patio garden and I am loving it. Like you, I step out with the camera in my hand every now and then, without giving a thought to what I am wearing or how my hair looks ;) Enjoy!

I will head over there and check that out. I had a hummingbird feeder at the beginning of the summer, but then it fell and broke! I was just starting to see hummingbirds on it too. I haven't replaced it yet and now it's the end of summer. Now I'm mad at myself.

ReplyDeleteI just noticed the other day that a Hummer's wings have the same effect on nearby leaves / plants, as does a Helicopter on nearby grass...they flutter...
