To me, it's vital.
I'd go bonkers if I didn't have at least a little piece of outside to escape to.
Unless the mosquitoes are really biting, or it's so hot that I risk passing out,
Unless the mosquitoes are really biting, or it's so hot that I risk passing out,
I'm sitting on my deck every chance I get.
I'd like to sleep out there, if it wasn't for the fact that I'm terrified of critters.
I couldn't wait to move to the 'burbs and create an outdoor room.
It took me years, however, to turn it into a space I was really happy with.
But, I get bored with things quickly, so every summer,
It took me years, however, to turn it into a space I was really happy with.
But, I get bored with things quickly, so every summer,
I tweak the deck just a bit with new accessories.
One summer, just for laughs, we rearranged the deck furniture.
It's stayed that way, and probably will, since we like it better this way.
You can see what it used to look like here.
Changing up the flower pots is one way
I keep the deck from looking the same year after year.
The herb box Mr. Goo Shoes made me last summer
is something new to "decorate."
I bought the herb signs on sale at Michael's for 80 cents each. A steal!
I had to have this red metal basket from Christmas Tree Shops.
The hummingbird feeder is a pretty accent in this flower pot.
I haven't seen a hummingbird go near it, though.
I guess I like it more than they do!
Another hummingbird feeder hangs just off the deck.
They love this one!
More about that in an upcoming post.
A yellow metal table from Home Goods was supposed to be for the garden nook,
The biggest change we made this year,
was adding an umbrella over the sitting area.
Mr. Goo Shoes found it online, and it's perfect.
It provides shade only part of the day,
but it does keep the birds from pooping on the furniture... a bonus!
There are solar lights on the inside.
They don't provide any light, but do set the mood.
I still use some favorites from previous summers --
a red lantern, rusted crown, and green crackled flower pots, all from Home Goods.
The black lantern is a fave, even though one glass pane has broken,
and another fell out.
At least I can take pictures of it without any glare, lol.
Throw pillows (from Pier 1) and the green garden stool (from Home Goods) still make me happy.
Just for fun, here's what the deck looked like in early spring
(along with a lovely shot of Sadie's rear end)...
and here's how it looks now...
Hmmm...my flip-flops are looking a little worn,
and my purse is a bit past it's prime.
I could use a few new accessories for my wardrobe.
Everybody into the car - let's go to the mall!

Well, for starters, I think Sadie DOES have a lovely rear end. I'll trade with her any day.
ReplyDeleteThere's nothing on your deck I don't love. The rug, the planters, the cute accessories. You rocked it out big time Amy.
When we bought our umbrella for the table it too had those lights, but I think I broke them. :(
Just beautiful. I love decks, flowers, umbrella, patio furniture...and yours all look so inviting. Have to show a picture of Sadie front-wards! haha...
ReplyDeleteI love your back deck area! It's so pretty with the furniture and the large umbrella with the lights under it. I love that big umbrella for shade. I've never seen one like that before. Looks like you have a nice private backyard too. It has been so hot here that we don't use ours during the day. We have to wait till the evening.
ReplyDeleteLovely!
ReplyDeleteI love the furniture, umbrella and all the touches of red.

ReplyDeleteAmy, what an inviting space! No wonder you spend every moment you can out there, it is a true outdoor living room, and magical at night. You definitely have a talent for creating lovely container gardens.
ReplyDeleteI went to your link and it made me homesick for fall and pumpkins! But we won't rush it. Your deck is too pretty now to hurry frost along.
