After being away for five weeks, it's good to be home.
Getting away from it all is great,
but there were some creature comforts of home that I missed..........
My Keurig.
My DVR.
My bed (oh, my BED!).
My big TV.
My shower.
My shower.
My straight hair!
One thing I didn't miss was the winter weather.
While NJ was being hit with a snowstorm, we gloated that we were in sunny Florida.
BahHahHah!!! Those poor people up north!
Maybe we shouldn't have rejoiced quite so much.......
because Mother Nature got even with us once we were back.
March came in like a lion, and roared all month.
Still, there's no place like home.
March began with our drive home from Florida. First stop was Savannah, and Sadie was living it up in the hotel room.
Day 2 of our drive from Virginia to NJ was a white-knuckler, as we made our way up I-95 in a bomb cyclone.
My anxiety meter rose when we had to exit the highway, and came upon this scene. Siri, where is the closest pet-friendly hotel? But we pressed on, and made it home safely.
Everything in the backyard was status quo. The deer were eating every bush in sight, and quenching their thirst at the birdbath.
Five days after the bomb cyclone, a mean nor'easter roared up the coast, doing a great deal of damage to our area. Trees were down on almost every block, including this one next-door.
In the light of day, though, the snow did have its charm.
Mr. Cardinal looks especially dashing in the snow, doesn't he? I find taking pictures of him irresistible.
He has now asked his agent to request a fee for using his image so frequently on my blog.
Although we were lucky no trees came down on our property, after the storm, a couple were leaning a little too far to the right, and had to be dealt with. Timberrrrrrrr!
I snapped this on the way to visit Junior Goo Shoes at college. Long may she wave.
Yup, two weeks later, we got another nor'easter. Florida has become a distant memory.
I tried getting a shot of the moon one night, but got this instead.
That's more like it.......a perfect Waxing Crescent.
Some weekends are jam-packed. I marched Saturday morning.......
And, on Sunday, held my big fundraiser with 200 guests. Nope, not at all stressful! 😫
Sadie looks as tired as I feel!
Uh-oh, another tree with bad posture. Unfortunately, we had to take that one down, too, because it would take the power lines if it fell. It was sad, but it wasn't a healthy tree.
Passover arrived at the end of the month. The seder plate was prepped, and the table was set.
Passover breakfast of champions: matzah with cottage cheese, cinnamon, pecans and blackberries. Yum. Well, as yum as matzah can be, anyway.
I was browsing restaurants for an upcoming trip, and came upon this menu item. I can't even imagine what it could mean. If we do go there, I'm definitely ordering it!
Speaking of bathrobes, sitting in one while reading the Sunday paper with a latte is one of life's simple pleasures.
For a minute, it felt like spring might actually come. I bought pansies to celebrate. But Mother Nature had an April Fools joke in store for us, albeit a day late. Winter ain't over yet, folks.
Till next time........
Hi Amy, As always, I enjoyed this post. You were lucky to get away from the winter weather for awhile anyway. I'm glad there was no damage to your home from the trees. Come on Spring!!! Joan-MyCookieClinic
ReplyDeleteHi Amy, isn't this weather ridiculous? NJ doesn't seem to get a break. Hope it ends soon, although, Saturday a mix.
ReplyDeleteI was laughing about the cardinal. I would have been nervous driving through the bomb cyclone. Sade looks so cute. She isn't worrying about anything but dinner.
I'm interested in the menu meal too.
Cindy
I had to look up what the currency was on that menu....are you going somewhere in the Czech Republic? Your Matzah breakfast looks yummy. I eat Matzah a lot with peanut butter! We are having a crazy wind storm here today but we escaped the snow that everyone else is getting. I guess it is a benefit of living farther upstate. Great post with great pictures!
ReplyDeleteYou guys can't get a break this year. I was just telling a friend I remember when we were kids we were always able to wear Spring outfits for Easter, but now it's more like snow suits! This reminds me of a couple of years ago when we came back from Florida after two months thinking we'd miss the snow. NOPE. Instead we had to shovel nearly five feet of it on the side of our house so we could get propane delivered. The next year we stayed away three months, and the rest is history. :)
ReplyDeleteDriving back in weather like that is the WORST! Glad you made it unscathed.

P.S. Apples in a bathrobe? Sounds intriguing!
I feel like I could have written most of this post myself! I kept joking that March was going to be known as the month we never had power. Each storm knocked it out for a few days... we even had snow on Monday. Thankfully the last two days of rain made sure it's all gone by now but trying to take a walk in the woods is so tough with trees down everywhere!
ReplyDeleteApril Fool's Day for sure - we are having it today - ugh! Sorry about your trees - so sad. That cheese board looks amazing and I'm so impressed with your planned fund raising event! You really must have hit the ground running after your vacation. We missed out altogether on Savannah but really enjoyed Charleston on the way to FL.

ReplyDeleteMy son and daughter in law both caught great new jobs in Florida and moved there 6 months ago. Both grew up in Michigan. When we lived in Michigan we drove straight down I 75 to Florida. Now we live in Ohio we had to drive a different way. The traffic was terrible. No more driving for us. We are flying. We went I 77 . Seems like everyone on the east coast goes on I 95. Glad you got home safely. We are suppose to have 2 more snow storms .
ReplyDeleteHi Amy, oh at least you had nice weather while away in FL for your long vacation! I can't believe March and April. Will spring weather ever arrive for us?
ReplyDeleteEnjoy the weekend.
Julie
Crossing my fingers that the worst weather is done! Even Texas hit the thirties this weekend. Beautiful photos!
