"And we're going to get through it because we are New York, and because we've dealt with a lot of things, and because we are smart. You have to be smart to make it in New York And we are resourceful and we are showing how resourceful we are. And because we are united, and when you are united, there is nothing you can't do. And because we are New York tough. We are tough. You have to be tough. This place makes you tough. But it makes you tough in a good way. We are going to make it because I love New York, and I love New York because New York loves you."
"New York loves all of you. Black and white and brown and Asian and short and tall and gay and straight. New York loves everyone. That's why I love New York. It always has, it always will. And at the end of the day, my friends, even if it is a long day, and this is a long day, love wins. Always. And it will win again through this virus. Thank you."
- NY Governor Andrew Cuomo
March 25, 2020
I want the noise, the grit, the crowded sidewalks.
I want the neon lights on Broadway, the billboards.
and the skyscrapers.
I want the concrete, the hot dog carts, and the tourists who walk too slowly.
I want the bagels, the Michelin restaurants, and the sea of yellow taxis.
I want to saunter through Bryant Park, when it's packed at lunch time.
I want to sit on the steps of the New York Public Library right next to total strangers.
I want to sit shoulder to shoulder with 20,000 folks in Madison Square Garden.
I want to join a gaggle of gawkers gathered on the sidewalk to watch the street performers.
Please get well soon, New York City.
The world needs you, healthy and strong.

ReplyDeleteIt is breaking my heart.
Oh I hope NY will get better and make it through this terrible and scary time. We are ramping up this week in Illinois with our numbers beginning to triple daily. If we can all stay inside and obey the protocols maybe we can get this virus to slow down and eventually stop. This is a scary time in our country. Stay safe and well my friend.

Get well, NYC. Get well, world. ♥
ReplyDeleteI enjoyed looking at the photos of the city and I miss it so much Amy. I hope you are ok, stay safe and be well. Sending you virtual hugs.
ReplyDeleteAMEN! The quote you began with from Governor Cuomo, tore my heart out. THANK YOU Governors, Mayors, Police Chiefs, Hospital Leaders, the NEWS, everyone that is trying to help our cities and the PEOPLE. STAY HOME, STAY SAFE...! Thank you, AMY for reminding us---it is PEOPLE that make NEW YORK, and I hope we will be able to enjoy your trips to there soon.

ReplyDeleteSuch passionate words and beautiful pictures! NY will get well again and get through this! Prayers and hugs ...
ReplyDeleteAmy, New York City is the best city in the world. My family has roots there. I love New York !!
ReplyDeleteAmy dear, this brought tears to my eyes. Your love pours through your post and you so obviously care about that city that somehow belongs to all of us, even those of us who have never been there. It's the scene of some of my favorite movies and beloved by two of my sons. I've rarely missed one of Gov. Cuomo's news briefings since this all began. His heart for his city made me feel like nothing would be left undone that he could possibly do to help it. I'm praying for NYC and for NJ, Amy. Thinking of you and sending my best!
ReplyDeleteOh, it is so sad! I have been thinking of you through all of this craziness because I know New York is your city and you know it and love it so well. It WILL heal and I hope it is SOON for you and all that call it home!
ReplyDeleteMy native New Yorker husband just read your post and was touched. He agrees that the things that sometimes you hate about New York (like the noise and grit and crowded subways!)are now the things you wish you had!
ReplyDeleteStay safe!

Love this. This has been heart breaking. i hope you are doing well.
ReplyDeleteGreat post, Amy! New York will come back - it always does! This past weekend, I would have been there for my annual girls day to Broadway. We had tickets to Moulin Rouge this year. So sad but I’m praying and trying to stay positive that we’ll get back to normal someday! Stay well, friend!
