NEW YORK CITY CHRISTMAS SCENES

Christmas In NYC | Ms. Toody Goo Shoes

Merry Christmas and Happy 8th night of Hanukkah, friends!

I'm sending holiday greetings from warm and sunny Florida.......
NOT!!!
It's 45 degrees and rainy.......
just 20 degrees warmer than back home in NJ!

Before heading south, I spent some time in NYC,
and captured a few holiday shots.......
Not the typical ones from Rockefeller Center,
or along Fifth Avenue.......
Just a few neighborhood sights that caught my eye.
( A few are pictures I took last year,
and never posted).
All photos were taken with my cell phone
(she said so as not to be judged too harshly 😉) .

City sidewalks, busy sidewalks, dressed in holiday style.......

Although some of that style is a bit quirky!

Have you ever wondered how New Yorkers
get their Christmas trees?
They are delivered by the truckload......

Lined up along the sidewalks........

And carried home, or delivered, as below.

Since the pandemic began,
NYC has allowed restaurants to build structures
in the streets to accommodate outdoor diners.
Although you can't tell from this picture,
they are completely open on the side that faces the sidewalk.
Many have heaters in winter.
It seems they are here to stay.

Many are quite lovely inside.

Brownstones are among the most expensive homes in Manhattan.
Christmas decor is sometimes simple......

And sometimes it is quite elaborate.
This one is a work-in-progress.
 It incorporates that huge vine
growing up the front of the building.

Here's the finished product.
This brownstone, and the one in the last photo,
are probably two of the most photographed homes
on the upper east side.

In fact, this one is hard to photograph
without other people in the picture
as it attracts quite a crowd.

I hope you all have had a wonderful holiday!
May peace, good health, love and happiness
be yours in the new year!

  2. Oh how nice all the decorations are in NY. Love those brownstones and how they decorated their outsides is gorgeous. Hope you are enjoying Hanukkah Ugh so cold in Florida. Yikes. I feel for all of those going on vacation down there. Very cold up here in Illinois. xoxo Kris

  3. Hanukkah is now over, Amy, so I am late wishing you Happy Hanukkah but I will do it anyway! I almost got under the wire for the last candle! We had a substantial storm that started right before Christmas and it hampered the travel plans of many, but conditions have been slowly improving in most areas. The decorations in New York are quite fantastic, although I think if I owned a brownstone that would be decoration enough! Glad you are safely ensconced in Florida, where it grieves and mystifies me that DeSantis was re-elected with an increased vote and is seriously considered a candidate for President. The world has gone mad! All the very best for the New Year - David

  4. So sorry your warm getaway is not so warm! It has not dampered your wit and photographic skill though. So happy to see you in my inbox again! After seeing your pictures I told my husband we have to go to NYC for Christmas again. It has been almost 20 years!

  7. This is great, Amy! I love seeing how "real people" live, not just the big stores. And the Christmas tree thing was interesting to me! I especially loved the interior of the outdoor dining spot! Simple and beautiful! Keep cozy in Florida and Happy New Year -- I'm delighted you are my blog buddy!
