Strawberry Mint Water

Strawberry Mint Water - A fresh and tasty change from ordinary water...and no calories! Ms. Toody Goo Shoes

What's your go-to beverage?
And don't say vodka.

I'm talking about what you drink
most often...everyday.

OK, maybe it is vodka.
 I'm not judging.

Most times, I reach for a glass of water,
or unsweetened iced tea as a runner-up.

It wasn't always this way.
When I was a kid,
my favorite beverage was strawberry soda.

It's not that I don't like soda now...
I just don't let myself drink it.
I'd rather use my calories on cheese,
or cake, or ice cream.
Or cheese.
Did I say cheese?

  I've got to admit, though,
I do, at times, get a little bored with water.
Water with lemon,
Water with lime,
Water with ice...
YAWN.

Sometimes, it's as dull as dishwater.

Once summer comes,
things get a little more exciting.
I like adding some fruit to my water,
and letting it steep.

It's really refreshing...
kind of like an adult version of strawberry soda,
minus the sugar and the fizz.
And the calories.
Not really, it's nothing like strawberry soda,
but it is tasty.

When I made a pitcher of strawberry mint water recently,
Junior Goo Shoes made a face
and said,
"Who puts leaves and strawberries in water?
That's gross."

I couldn't get him to try it.

Two days later, after it was long gone,
he said,
"Can I have some of that strawberry water?"

Sheesh.
I can't figure that kid out sometimes.
I guess it just had to steep in his brain
for a few days.

Fruit-flavored waters are great to serve
when you are having company.

It makes a good impression,
like nice, clean towels in the bathroom.

Yes, you may have under-cooked the chicken,
and over-cooked the vegetables,
but your guests will think you are a very posh hostess
once they catch sight of your elegantly infused water.
No matter that all you did
was toss a bunch of fruit into a pitcher.

The chicken will be long forgotten,
but the water will be memorable.
Just think of it as a pretty accessory
to the rest of your meal.

If you try it,
make the fruit water at least an hour beforehand --
preferably two,
so that the flavors are infused in the water.

Be sure to mottle the mint
(you know, crush it, bruise it, until it yells "ouch!"),
to release the flavor.

Just don't make it the day before,
or the fruit will get waterlogged...
and will look like bloated goldfish that went belly up.
Not pretty.

I'm sorry.
That probably ruined your appetite, didn't it?

So, have I convinced you to put strawberry mint water
on the menu of your next soiree?
(I apologize about the goldfish visual,
really, I do).
