My Photo Diary: February

Did you ever keep a diary?

I did, for several years, when I was a teenager. Most of what I wrote was about boys, or how unfair my parents were...or rather, how unfair I thought they were. Now that I'm the unfair one, I have a slightly different perspective.

I'm too lazy to write in a journal these days...but I thought it would be fun to keep a daily photo diary. I decided to give it a shot for February, and then see if I want to keep going with it. I'll tell you, it is not easy to get a great picture every single day, so please excuse the ones that are so-so...like this first one, for instance.

             ***************************************************

February 1
Great start to the month: Didn't see Junior Goo Shoes' friend's bike in the driveway, and ran over the tire. Yeah, that's how I roll...literally.

February 2
Most boring Super Bowl game ever? Yes! (Sorry, Peyton). Thank goodness for good friends, commercials, and Mini Nachos.

Walking by the Silk Exchange Building, in SoHo, New York City, on the way to my haircut appointment, which I fortuitously scheduled in between snow storms.

Six more inches of snow today. Lazy girl's snowman. Junior Goo Shoes says, "Hey, I wanted to wear that hat today!"

February 6
Lunch with one of my oldest friends, who is in from Michigan. Nothing says "New Jersey" like diner food. Some diners say it better than others, though.

I "Heart" a baking day while watching Opening Ceremonies for the Winter Olympics.

Sadie, relaxing on a Sunday afternoon. It's a dog's life.

February 10:
Went to Trader Joe's to get something for dinner; came back with tulips. Needed a spring "fix" bad!

February 11:
Another day, another diner.  Had lunch with three friends I've known since childhood.  Can we really have known each other for so long? Did I really eat that entire salad?

February 12:
Acorns again for lunch? This guy sits on my deck railing just about every day having his lunch. He must work nearby.

February 13:
Nor'easter came up the coast, and left another 12 inches of snow. I cheated a bit and took this early the next morning, when the sun came out, and ice was gleaming on the tree limbs.

February 14:
Packed up my "Have a Heart" shortbread cookies for my boys, and my bags for Florida! Happy Valentine's Day!

February 15:
Hello, Florida! Solar therapy badly needed.

February 16:
House-hunting in Florida. Ah, yes, I could live with this as my backyard view.

February 17:

Pina coladas at the pool always taste better when it's snowing at home.

Came home to NJ to find 3-foot long icicles all around the house.

Sadie says, "You're not the only ones sick of all this snow. How come you didn't take me to Florida with you?"

An interesting juxtaposition...'nuff said.

Most unusual sighting at Home Goods ever. Any guesses as to what it is? A giant planter? A bar? A playhouse? Pricetag: $2000. Who wants one?

February 24:
"The dog ate my homework!" No, REALLY!!!

Hey, this place is like Grand Central Station! Oh, wait, it IS Grand Central Station. Walking through on my way to meet a friend/former co-worker for lunch.

In New York City two days in a row? Note to self: Must have head examined. Meeting a friend in Times Square for lunch.

How much wood does a woodpeck peck...oh wait, I think I've got that wrong. Never mind.

There's one thing that I learned from taking a picture a day. If you open your eyes wide enough, there is always something worth photographing! Now, if only my photography skills were better...

And with that, I say, Buh-BYE, February! So sorry to see you go -- NOT!

  1. What a great idea. So sorry you guys have been hammered with so much snow. Chris moves to N.Y. Monday. I think there is another storm on the way... Blogging is really the first journaling I have ever done but I don't take pictures every day. I should try. Loved it.

    1. Thanks, Katie, it was a fun challenge. I'm going to see if I can do it again for March. Yes, we are expecting another storm here starting Sunday into Monday. NYC is expecting 6 inches, and as much as a foot south of the city, which Chris might encounter assuming he is driving up? Any way he can delay till Tuesday? I love my "blogging" version of journaling, but I am really hoping to improve my photography skills. Of course it would help if I had a really good camera!

  3. I'm also in N.J. and I too am sick of the ice and snow. Another 6 to 12 inches possible this Sunday! By the way, I happened to see that metal train at my local Home Goods. We might be neighbors! Found your blog a few months ago and really like your style. Judy M.

    1. Hi, Judy. I know - I can't believe we are getting more snow! Yes, maybe we are neighbors - I can't believe they would manufacture too many of those trains, LOL! You have made my day by telling my you like my style -- thank you so much!

  4. What a GREAT idea this post is. A picture a day for the whole month! LOVE it! We have more snow and ice coming tonight, too. I am so sick of snow I could spit----but I won't because it would freeze mid air----lol What a fun post, Amy- xo Diana

    1. Thank you, Diana! Glad you liked it. I think we may be spared this time -- more snow is expected just south of us, so we may only get 3-6 inches this time. Even still...ENOUGH!

  5. How fantastic, Amy! You should make this a monthly series and have people that follow along link up on the last day of each month! I will have to try this for March - we can collaborate if you want.
We have several cardinals AND we actually have a couple of woodpeckers out back and I don't know that my lens will do it. It's on the list. Love this and all of your fun pics!! xo

  6. What a great idea! I love Florida too and lived there for a couple of years. Even though moving there is out of the question because of my husband's job, we would love to have a vacation condo or retire there one day.

    1. Thanks, Jennifer! We aren't moving any time soon - probably 3-5 years, and then it would be half the year. We'd sell this house and find something much smaller up here.

  7. Your photos are gorgeous...especially Florida! I'm sure it was difficult to return to the cold and ice. I love NYC! What a delight to meet friends for lunch. Sadie is adorable!

  8. I thought that was a great way to journal about each day. The pictures made it much more interesting. Loved your lazy man's snowman. And meeting someone for lunch in Time Square just sounds so cool. It must be close to your house then.

    1. Hi, Kelly, thank you! I try to get into NYC once a week, but because of all the snow we had this year, so many of my plans got cancelled, that I had to go in twice last week! Of course, I used to go in 5 days a week when I was working, but now two seems like too much! We are about 28 miles from midtown, which takes 40 minutes by car in no traffic.

  9. Great idea! I've never kept a diary, but I call my blog my daily diary. So really, you are keeping one! That woodpecker looks kind of like my woodpecker.

    1. Yes, Brenda, I agree that blogging is the new journaling! I think it is a Red-Bellied Woodpecker; he (or his relatives) have been around here a long time, and I love when he shows up in my backyard!

  10. You crack me up! 'Lazy girl's snowman, did I really eat that entire salad, pina coladas at the pool always taste better when it's snowing at home'. LOL. Amy, LOVED this first entry of your photo journal, and as much as you North Americans desperately want February to be history, your images make it look like 28 days of FUN! Looking forward to the magic of this month, seen through your eyes and heard via your words!

    Happy 1st of March!

    1. Thank you, Poppy! It helped that Feb was only 28 days, lol! I'm a bit worried about March -- 31 days, no plans for travel...the pressure is on!

  11. I just started trying to do an Instagram picture a day. I somehow didn't realize that you lived so close to NYC. I like the Silk Exchange building. The Lazy Girl's Snowman made me laugh, and the ice covered tree limbs photo is very artistic.

    1. Thanks, Magali! My friend's son left his backpack on the floor, and the paper must have been sticking out. Sadie is a paper-eating fiend, and went right for it! Fortunately, he could print it out again!

  17. fantastic collection of February images. You have done very well I would say. I am doing a 365 photo project this year (I have blogged about it today!) - and yes it can be a challenge making sure you take a pic every day. Some of mine are certainly only "so-so". I hope you continue with it. Have a wonderful week. I am joining you through Mosaic Monday.

I'm thinking about a link party for a photo a day - will be posting more info soon. Hope you will come by to join in!
