TRAVEL COLLAGE: 20 PRETTY ARCHWAYS AROUND THE WORLD

#18 of 20 pretty archways around the world; this one spotted in Budapest.| Ms. Toody Goo Shoes

What is it that makes archways so appealing?

Whenever I see one, it demands to be photographed.
Sometimes what beckons to me are the details of the arch itself,
but often, I'm intrigued by how it frames the scenery which lies beyond.

In real life, you can venture through the opening
to let the landscape on the other side reveal itself.
In a photo, whatever is beyond the bounds of the arch remains a mystery.

Perhaps that's why I like to photograph them so much.

  4. I can't imagine how you curate all your gorgeous photos...! So many beautiful architectural finds...brings me back to all my art history classes. I think the arch is comforting.....like re-entering the womb or a reminder of the arched sky. Who knows...other than it was the strongest type of construction for making an opening in a wall or building structurally. Who knows, but they are beautiful.

    1. And arches have been around for thousands of years! As for curating my photos, I have spent hours, days, weeks (!) sorting them into folders by subject, which sounds tedious, but I quite enjoyed it! Now, when I upload new photos, I put them right into their appropriate folders. I must have 100 of them, which means I can blog for years, lol!

I love this post. Each archway is awesome - what beautiful places you have traveled.

We are going to Montreal on Sunday to simply walk and eat our way around the city. You better believe I will be looking for archways nowl.

  6. These are all so lovely, Amy! What a fabulous collection. I'm torn trying to pick a favorite (not that we have to, but why not!) and I think I'm narrowed down to Amalfi and Naples. Now I think I should spend some time discovering Italy if it's this colorful!

  9. The arch, graceful and functional, is one of the most appealing architectural elements; so I'm loving this post! Pinning for future reference!
