Survey time....Mayonnaise or Mustard?
I'm definitely more mayo,
I'm definitely more mayo,
although there are times when mustard is king...
like on a hot dog, or a hot pretzel...
on a salami sandwich, or a knish.
Most other times, my condiment of choice is mayo.
What would a turkey sandwich, or macaroni salad...
be without it?
As good as it is,
even mayo needs a little spicing up every now and then.
One day, I was feeling a little lazy about making dinner.
(You know I'd rather do anything but cook)
I went to Trader Joe's and bought salmon burgers.
Maybe it was their display of potted basil plants in the entryway,
but suddenly, I had a hankering for Basil Mayo,
and thought it would make the store-bought burgers taste a little more special.

I found a recipe on Food Network.com,
and whipped it up in a minute.
Looks good, doesn't it?
(The salmon burger is hidden somewhere under that tomato).
It was delicious and super-easy.
I was happy with everything but...
my photos of it.
Given that my birthday was coming,
it was time to start hinting for a new camera.
it was time to start hinting for a new camera.
I began with some subtle hints,
like leaving the computer open to a page about cameras...
laying a flyer about camera sales on the top of the bagels...
putting a business card from the local camera store
next to the toothpaste...
sneezing the word "camer-aCHOO!..."
you know, mature stuff like that.
Yet, I couldn't trust that my hints were being received.
You have to understand that I was dealing with someone
who walked around a mall for an entire day
the year we first met,
and finally decided I'd like a Salad Shooter for my birthday.
It was time to stop pussy-footing around.
"If you want a hint about what to get me for my birthday,
I'd like a camera."
To which he replied,
"Really? I was thinking I'd replace your Kindle."
You see what I mean?
So, this past Sunday, on my birthday,
I wasn't exactly sure what to expect.
My gift wasn't wrapped.
Junior and Mr. GS had a blanket tossed over it,
and they ripped it off together
like I won a prize on a game show.
It was hilarious, but unfortunately there were no hidden cameras recording the event.
"Ms. Toody Goo Shoes, you've got yourself a Brand New Camera! Come on down!"
Needless to say,I was thrilled!
Now I really need some lessons to learn how to use it,
because I can't blame the camera anymore
for my crappy photos.
************
1/4 cup basil leaves
1 tsp lemon zest
1 tbsp lemon juice
Place ingredients in a blender and blend until smooth.
Lesson learned:,
Sometimes in life, you've got to ask for what you want,
or you will end up with a salad shooter.
Oh, and just this once..
HAPPY BIRTHDAY!!! I have a "salad shooter" kind of hubby too so I used to circle all the fabulous things I wanted in all the catalogs I got. I usually got something from them and it was still a surprise! Now I don't get catalogs anymore and I don't need anything! I just straight out ask for what I want. For "our" anniversary "we" (I) got a new side porch slammin' door. Works for me!!
ReplyDeleteThanks, AnnMarie! We've got to train those hubbies right, don't we! Love the idea of a porch slammin' door!
DeleteHappy Birthday !!! And thank you for the great basil mayonnaise. A fantastic idea! Sounds like a delicious combination. Will try it soon!!!
ReplyDeleteAll my best from Austria
Elisabeth
Thanks for visiting all the way from Austria, Elisabeth! Hope you like the mayo!
DeleteHappy Birthday Amy! I'm glad to hear that the messages were received and you now have a new camera. I am still pointing and shooting and my photos show it!
ReplyDeleteThat mayo looks delicious......I'd like a salmon burger with basil mayo right now!
Thank you for the birthday wishes! I was using a point and shoot and now I have no idea how to use the new camera except for on Auto. I've got lots to learn!
DeleteHey Happy Birthday to YOU!! So glad your wish came true - a new camera is a great gift and you hinted so well! Your basil mayo sounds delish and especially with salmon!

Thank you so much, Catherine! I had a great day!
DeleteHappy Belated birthday Amy! And cheers on the new camera. You will have fun learning your new toy. I am still learning a year later lol. Basil mayo sounds delish!
ReplyDeleteThank you, Debbie! I hope I can figure this camera out! So much to learn!
DeleteHappy Belated Birthday!!! Oh, I'm so jealous that you got a new camera. I want a nicer one so bad too. What kind did you get? Did you take the pics on this post with your new camera? I know you will have fun using it. Glad you got what you asked for too. Guess your hubby isn't in the doghouse anymore. LOL.
ReplyDeleteThanks, Kelly! I got a Nikon 3300. They had a great package deal at Costco that came with 2 lenses. I didn't take the pics in this post with it. I think maybe the first post will be next week (if I can get my act together)!
DeleteCan't wait to see new pics!
ReplyDeleteI've been playing around with it - fun!
DeleteNever tried basil mayo before, but it sure looks good.
ReplyDeleteHappy Birthday, and I'm sure you'll have fun with your new camera.
Mary Alice
It really is good, Mary Alice! Thanks for the birthday wishes!
DeleteHappy Birthday and yay on the new camera!! That is awesome! Your basil mayo looks good too...I like mustard and mayo, but I love flavored mayos!! Never tried basil, but I have mixed in pesto many times!
ReplyDeleteThanks, Michelle! Now I just have to learn how to use it!
DeleteHappy Birthday! A new camera sounds fun! Basil mayonnaise sounds so good. Have a great weekend.
ReplyDeleteThanks, Lana, I'm excited about the camera! I hope you have a nice weekend, too.
DeleteHappy Birthday! I look forward to seeing what great new photos you post. My hubby once attempted to buy me a powered tub scrubber, and I immediately shot down that idea. I must admit that I am a mustard person. On the other hand, I've never tried Basil Mayo so that may convert me.
ReplyDeleteWell, the tub scrubber beats a salad shooter, lol! Thanks for the birthday wishes, Michele!
DeleteHappy birthday and I am glad you got what you wanted. That basil mayo looks yummy!!
ReplyDeleteThanks for the birthday wishes, Elizabeth!
DeleteThis is a great idea! Glad I found it at Foodie Fridays!
ReplyDeleteHope you enjoy it, Susan!
DeleteLove your recipe & I can so relate to the birthday gift! I'm sure you'll enjoy your camera wayyy more than the salad shooter! Happy birthday!!
ReplyDeleteHa, yes, I'll enjoy it just a bit more than that salad shooter!
DeleteHappy belated birthday! Yah! A new camera!! Thanks for joining HSH!
ReplyDeleteThanks, Sherry! Now I need to learn how to use it!
